OMG what a trip. It was always going to be a long day but both our flights were delayed. Our original flight was due to leave Gatwick at 10 but we finally made it onto the plan at 2pm. The inconvenience was slight (we had a scheduled layover of 6 hours anyway so we had the extra time in Gatwick rather than Charlotte). Then the long wait in customs because for some reason the US makes you go through customs at the first stop in the US even if your connecting (this took us about 45 mins). US Airways had it pretty well organised after customs though and we were soon on the plane bound for Salt Lake. But the pilots were late flying in from Newark and then the storms hit and Charlotte airport closed. So we sat and waited....and eventually another later we were off. And so the day ended at Salt Lake City airport, just a little more than 24 hours after we started in the UK!
