The bags are all packed, well almost and I've finally run out of ideas for last minute purchases so at last I can start to actually look forward to our action packed week of traveling in Turkey! As normal, just like the overstuffed suitcases we desperately attempt to keep below the airline's weight limit, we've packed our itinerary to overflowing. We're going to start by flying into Istanbul and on our list will be all the famous sites including the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace and of course the Grand Bazaar!

The boys are so looking forward to emulating James Bond or Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson's character from Taken), racing across the roof of the Grand Bazaar - I better break it to them soon that this isn't allowed! We've also got a boat trip in the infamous Bosphorus which separates Asia to the east from Europe on the west. The we've going to make our way down the west coast, starting by taking a ferry across the Sea of Marmara to Canakkale as a base to see the battlefields of Gallipoli, then onto Troy, Assos, Pergamon, Ephesus and Selcuk. Four days of relaxing follow in the seaside town of Kas (although the first day and night we're spending on a boat, sleeping on deck - should be exciting!).

Then a flight to Kayseri will bring us to Cappadocia and a balloon ride over the stunning scenery at sunrise followed by visits to the many sites of Cappadocia including the underground cities and a visit to a Sema to watch the Whirling Dervishes perform.

Then sadly, a return trip home! Seems very quick when you write it down, hope it won't go so quickly in real life! I am really looking forward to Turkey.

We've had some amazing holidays in the last 5 years and it incredible to reflect on some of our experiences - camping in the jungle in Sri Lanka, seeing the Oorangatans in Borneo, riding camels to the top of Mount Sinai at midnight in Egypt, walking the Great Wall of China, the helicopter ride over Niagara Falls and camping in a Tipi in Montana. They've all had something special and its not always been the what we expect (I have a fond memory of being driven to Chinatown in Georgetown Penang and ending up eating at the YMCA!).

So what will be our highlight in Turkey? Well finding out is the fun part!
