Seeing Niagara Falls from our hotel room was amazing but nothing can compare to seeing it from the sky. We'd booked a helicopter ride with National Helicopter on their Grand Family Tour. The sky was overcast but there was no snow or wind when we set off for the airport which is about 20KM from Niagara Falls Canada. We considered this perfect weather but when we arrived at the quiet, nearly deserted airport it turned out that we had not considered the low cloud. We had phoned ahead and already knew there would be a half hour delay but soon it became apparent that it would be longer. We took a quick tour of the nearby Niagara-on-the-lake,
stopping off at an ice cream parlour for cheesecake and muffins. The lift off was smooth and after the initial exhilarated exclamation at the first banking of the helicopter we soon relaxed and enjoyed the flight. It was a short trip - just 20 mins - but well worth the 500 Canadian dollars. Seeing Lake Eire, Lake Ontario and the Niagara river from the sky was in itself fabulous but Niagara Falls itself was awesome. We flew right over the falls turning both ways so everyone could see it. We flew over our hotel too! Callum had the best seat in the house - right next to the pilot. We were very sad to finish out journey but resolved more trips in a helicopter. Lisa added Flying Lessons to her I'm 40 and need to learn to do stuff list. We took so many pictures but here is just one. |
