My family travelled to New York City and then across state to Niagara Falls - this is what we did and what we enjoyed (and didn't!).

The New York Public Library may not seem a likely tourist destination but we've seen it in so many films, not least The Day After Tomorrow that I couldn't resist taking a peek.

The outside of the building with its impressive columns and broad steps was such a familiar sight. Inside the architecture is reminiscent of a stately home back in the UK. We climbed the elegant curving staircases until we came to the reading room which was full of tables with people reading or on laptops.

The room itself was also so familiar from The Day After Tomorrow where they come to collect books to burn to keep them warm! We only spent about 20 mins in the Library but it was free and was definitely worth the time out of our schedule.
