My family travelled to New York City and then across state to Niagara Falls - this is what we did and what we enjoyed (and didn't!).

The final leg of our short journey to New York to celebrate Lisa's 40th birthday is a drive cross state back towards NYC but staying overnight in a country Inn in the state of Massachusetts, New England. The car journey itself is long and to be honest not particularly interesting once we are on the Interstate toward Albany. However we break up the journey with a quick trip to a town on Fingers Lake - Skateetals. Situated right at the northern tip of one of the lakes it must be an attractive place to stay in summer.

In February it is cold and there is sleet coming down as we drive into its main street. However we've selected this as a lunch stop and for that purpose it does it's job very nicely. There are a couple of nice looking restaurants right at the rivers edge but we are looking for something a little lighter given all the food we have consumed so far! The Inn at Richmond, MassachusettsSo instead we stop off at a deli and pizza diner.

We are confused but a very nice American lady takes us in hand. Choose a pizza, choose a sub, choose a drink - we chose them all - did I say we were looking for something light! Anyway it was a good stop off and we are soon back on our trip. It's dark by the time we cross the state line and the snow is coming down more strongly. However the satellite navigation does its job well and soon we are arriving at our destination. The Inn at Richmond Massachusetts.
